Guitar Lessons

Picking up the instrument in 1967, I’ve now played guitar for almost sixty years.

Beginning in standard tuning, then adding Open E (or D); Open G (or A); Dropped D and Double Dropped D and E-Modal tuning (EBEEBE) (courtesy of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young); and finally unpacking the guitar techniques of Delta Blues legend Robert Johnson, among others (Mississippi John Hurt, Rev. Gary Davis, Blind Blake, Blind Boy Fuller, etc.), I have learned something about the instrument and solo roots guitar.

In-person or online lessons generally consist of working on core technique in the context of a piece I know (and that you are interested in and long to play).

Since the tech overlords have killed Skype, I teach on Zoom now.

Lessons are typically 40 minutes, often with a follow-up informal video to help with retention.

I enjoy teaching and consider it a responsibility and something I owe to my elders. Prepaying for three lesson blocks makes them more affordable and we then schedule them as needed.
