As a sort of rite of passage, I have been performing for the 8th Grade at this lovely charter school in Raleigh for many years (well into the second decade). These sort of repeat gigs are immensely gratifying. The loyalty of the administration here is a testimony to the usefulness of my work, something I take to heart each time they offer me a part of their school day again.

My first exposure to the tradition of acoustic blues happened in a school. And for that reason, I continue to present teaching concerts on the African roots and American diversity of the blues. You never know when someone will catch fire, as I did at the sound of this music and its emotional power. I'll present two concerts here for K-4 and 5-8 grades, at 1:00 p.m. and 2:15 p.m., respectively.
