2026:  Back to Touring

Between the pandemic, the loss of venues, back surgery and the move to Floyd, Virginia in 2025, my calendar has been pretty empty.

I am intent on getting out on the road again, knowing in my soul that I am happier and more useful performing, than doing anything else.

I’m available for teaching concerts in schools, public concert series, coffeehouses, house concerts, guitar workshops, music camps and the like.  Please reach out and we’ll see if we can make a visit happen.

At this time in my life, making a difference is at least as important as making money. Respect, goodwill, and friendship have become revolutionary acts in our country. Join me in extending those!

Milwaukee Slide Guitar Workshop, Saturday morning April 22

April 22, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 12:30 pm

Saturday morning, April 22, 10-12:00 I’ll be teaching slide for all level players, introducing key hand skills and techniques in standard and then in open tunings.

“I’ve been teaching slide guitar for more than thirty years. A few years back, I envisioned reversing the order in which I teach the skill sets necessary to control the slide and the magnificent sounds it can make.

We’ll begin in standard tuning, playing one string at a time, and focusing on five basic right and left-hand techniques that will open slide guitar to any player, in any tuning. Once we’ve established the basics, we’ll move into open tunings. When we’re done, you’ll have – and understand – the keys to the kingdom of slide guitar.  Even if you currently play some slide guitar, this review of the basics and exploration will be useful.  This course is recommended for anyone considering the “Guitar Techniques of Robert Johnson”.

Hand and guitar posture. controlled slide movement, getting a decent tone, and development of several types of vibrato will be covered as we proceed through different tunings and take a look at strategies for solo and ensemble slide playing in standard tuning too.

The music of Muddy Waters, Rober Johnson, Mississippi John Hurt will be featured, as well as my own arrangements. Bring a slide that fits snuggly on your little finger.
